Abstract

The paper presents the results of a sociological study, conducted by the Southern Russian Department of the Institute of Sociology of Russian Academy of Sciences in the summer and autumn of 2013. The article analyzes public opinion on poverty and social inequality. The authors show that the main causes for persisting poverty in such rich country as Russia lie in the limited possibilities of using human and social capital.
