Abstract

The paper analyses features of the educational process at educational institutions of the Russian border. Data are obtained from field research in three border regions of the Russian Federation using in-depth interviews with directors and teachers of regional schools, schools and technical schools of arts, teachers of additional education, and representatives of regional administration. The analysis is based on official documents and mass media publications on this subject and reveals the current problems that educational institutions in the studied regions face at present. Prospects of graduates of schools and their focus on further training in Higher Education Institutions, Average Education Institutions, etc. are considered. An attempt is made to estimate the results of the educational process in border areas through examples of the educational process during the training of school students. Despite the introduction of the new law “About Education”, examples are given of previous traditions that remain in training. The relationship of teachers to the Unified State Examination and State Total Certification has influenced the educational process and is analysed. Features of the situation connected with education in the village are presented in terms of the main characteristics of additional education both on the basis of educational institutions and separately from them. The paper shows the types of additional education and the interest in these from pupils, as well as from their parents. During this research, the teaching structure of border schools was demonstrated. Also documented was the fact that part of borderland school graduates come back to the small homeland and to native educational institutions as teachers.
