Nutrition was involved in sociological discourse space in the late 20th – early 21st century. The article considers the reasons of enhanced sociologists’ interest for this theme, objectivity and methodology of sociological food research, and the practical use of empirical studying dietary habits of different social groups. It also provides the results of empirical study of Moscow students’ dietary practices. It concludes that the contemporary orientation for individualized diet is a manifestation of social pressure on the youths’ nutritional habits. The research of dietary ration of different social groups remains urgent for diagnosing social well‑being.
